Formal mediation is a process where the parties have reached a certain point in a traditional dispute, or have otherwise opted for an early mediation, whereby the parties will seek to narrow down the issues and resolve the matters in dispute. For example, in a Family Provision Application, mediation comes into play at a later stage of the matter when most of the issues between the parties have become apparent.
